Fryer's Field

Fryer's field has played a big part in many Haughtonians' lives.

As a treat on a nice sunny day, my mother & father often took my sister and I for a picnic in Fryer's Field, which we called 'the playing fields'. In one of the photos you can see a photo of me sitting between my mother Mrs Joyce High and a school friend Anthony Metcalfe.  In fact as children, our cousins and friends all played in the field too.

Did you know that the field was given as a gift to the children of the parish by the local grocer Frederick Fryer and is still protected by a covenant?

The below paper cutting and attached photos show the field in 1959, 2000 and 2010.
