It is 70 years this evening Tuesday, 13th January, since CANADIAN PILOT OFFICER WILLIAM McMULLEN died whilst he steered his stricken Lancaster away from Darlington during WW2. There will be a small service of remembrance at his memorial on McMullen Road junction of Allington Way. The Mayor of Darlington, representatives from various groups including the British Legion, plus Chris Lloyd from the Northern Echo will be in attendance - a number will be laying wreaths. EVERYONE WILL GATHER AT 8.30PM. The mayor is to say a few words and a minutes silence will be held at 8.49pm (the time the Lancaster came down) followed by the last post and reveille. All are welcome.
